After five years of leading the Albany Business Review, I had the privilege of sitting in some of the most influential rooms in our business community alongside CEOs, entrepreneurs, nonprofit executives, philanthropists, professional service firms and community leaders.

And I kept seeing the same problem.

Nonprofits are expected to operate with the same professionalism, accountability, technology, security, and financial discipline as successful for-profit businesses, without always having access to the same resources.

Too often, the traditional business model simply wasn't built with nonprofits in mind.
 

Or perhaps most concerning, talented nonprofit leaders and their teams find themselves doing highly specialized work they were never hired or trained to do.

That takes valuable time away from the mission.
